SACRAMENTO, CA — On April 18, 2017, California State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tom Torlakson announced two east bay middle schools as 2017 California Gold Ribbon Schools. These two schools included AMPS Richmond Charter Academy of Richmond and AMPS Downtown Charter Academy of Oakland, both public charter schools under Amethod Public Schools.
“We are extremely proud of our scholars and staff for this achievement,” says Jorge Lopez, chief executive officer of Amethod Public Schools. “We will continue to work hard toward reaching greatness with all of our AMPS campuses. In total, 275 schools were honored under the Gold Ribbon Schools Awards for 2017. This award recognizes California schools that have made gains in implementing the academic content and performance standards adopted by the California State Board of Education. These include the California Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics, California English Language Development Standards, and Next Generation Science Standards.
“I am very impressed with the academic performance of our students and the commitment to exceptional teaching on the part of our staff. I am elated that AMPS Richmond Charter Academy is being recognized by the state for educational excellence,” says Jeff Clinton, site director of AMPS Richmond Charter Academy. “This award reinforces the hard work and dedication of our school community. We are fortunate to have supportive parents, focused students, and a devoted staff,” says Clinton.
AMPS Richmond Charter Academy and AMPS Downtown Charter Academy serve approximately 500 students in the East Bay. Their mission is to provide a rigorous college preparatory education and character development program that will prepare students from underserved communities to succeed in college and beyond.
“This award is a true testament to the hard work and dedication from our students, staff, and families,” says Angela Ortega, site director of AMPS Downtown Charter Academy. “I’m honored to be a part of such a great team and I learn something new from my students every day.
